Simon and Pam Williams
Simon and Pam met in
1995, while Simon's dad was in California on a "Pulpit Swap" with
Jeff Walling. They were married in 1999 and have worked
with the Nottingham congregation since then. The Williams
were blessed with the birth of their daughter Charlotte
on June 4th, 2002.
Simon has been working
with the Church since he was 15, teaching Sunday School
and helping
at youth events since 1996. Simon took a year out to
work with the congregation in Lindborough. Simon worked
under Mark Hill, a brother in Christ, for one year.
Following this, he attended the British Bible School,
where he graduated in 1999.
Pam has a degree in child development,
and taught at the Marguerite Christian School for two
years before she married Simon and moved to England.
Simon and Pam have established their home in Nottingham,
and really enjoy living there. They see theier future
working for the church in whichever way God directs
them.
The Nottingham Church of Christ
The church was established
in Nottingham 10 years ago under the guidance of Bob
Eckman, where a few families
met together in a hotel to worship the Lord.
The
church grew through God's grace, and eventually
the Congregation moved to Stapleford (a suburb of Nottingham)
and met in a community centre. Two years ago, we
were able to purchase our own building just across
the road from where we used to meet.
The church
is
now 35 members strong with attendance up to 48
on some Sundays and still growing.
Schools
One of the churches main areas of work is with the
schools in the local area. When the church hosts a
group of students (AIMers, Harding University, etc.,)
we are able to perform many assemblies for the schools
in the area. This is a great opportunity to reach out
to young children and we have established a very good
reputation within the 15 schools we have contact with.
We plan to continue this effort; Simon works very closely
with the schools.
Special Events
The Church holds many special events
for its members and community outreach events. One
such event was a "Harvest
Meal" we had for the older generation. They were
fed and entertained for free. Many of the older people
of the community came and enjoyed the time, not believing
that a church would provide a meal without asking for
money! These events help us gain access into many homes
and provides many contacts within the community.
Community Work
Community work is something the church here is really
trying to get involved with. Now that we have building
to use, we plan to to use it as much as we can for
the community and for God. We plan on starting a Coffee
Morning, a Youth Club, and a Mum and Tot's group. These
are all non-religious activities to encourage people
to enter our building and get to know us and hopefully
in turn, to come to know God.
Congregational Work
The present members of the congregation of course,
are very important. We hold many social events to encourage
the bonding of our members, to grow closer to one another
and to God. Bob and Simon have a regular visitation
programme, visiting the members to specifically talk
about the Church, and to get their thoughts to make
sure their needs are being met.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should we support Simon and Pam?
As with any missionary, they seek to serve God with
all their heart, mind, soul, and strength, however
they need help to do this. They live in a country that
can easily be visited; due to no language barriers,
groups can work in England with little difficulty.
In what ways can we be involved?
Financial Support is received through the churches
of Christ, world wide. Prayers for success in bringing
soles to Christ are always welcome.
Why does Britain need Missionaries?
Surveys indicate that less than
50% of the British people believe in God, with only
2% of "believers" even
darkening a churches doorstep more than three times
a year. The church of Christ has only 2,500 members
in the whole of the United Kingdom. These statistics
alone show that people in England need to know God.
